Protecting Aussie skin with high quality shade is our aim
Australia is an amazing place to live, with many world-class outdoor spaces. However, ultraviolet or UV radiation from the sun is at levels that can cause damage to your skin throughout most of the year, even on cool and cloudy days. When the UV level is at 3 or higher it can dramatically increase the risk of skin damage and cancer. That’s why quality shade is so important to provide good protection from both direct and indirect UV.
Considering Australia has amongst the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, a regulatory framework to mandate the provision of shade is long overdue.
Design considerations for Shade structures…
A well-designed shade structure must consider positioning as well as how different angles of the sun, weather conditions and seasons impact spaces.
A custom approach is best for commercial and residential projects as it involves calculating how much shade is required, the orientation of the structure depending on the sun’s path, and the potential angles of the structure for rain runoff and wind.
It is also a great to take into account the natural shade provided in an area such as trees. By using a combination of built and natural shade it will create a more pleasant environment for recreation and activities.
The importance of shade fabric…
To ensure protection from harmful UV, a high-quality fabric is needed such as PTFE (Poly Tetra Fluoro Ethylene) is a Teflon coating over woven fibreglass fibres. These are high quality materials made from polytetrafluoroethylene glass fibre coated fabric and used for permanent constructions. The shade sail material has very high tensile resistance. It is UV resistant, non-combustible and boasts a high reflective capability.
